Gävle Castle is a castle located on the south side of the river Gavleån, at the Castle Square in Gävle in Gästrikland. It is currently the residence of the Governor of Gävleborg County.
The castle was originally built in the 1580s but had a completely different appearance than now. In a fire in 1727, the castle was destroyed. It was renovated in the 1740s and then got its current appearance.
Between 1988 and 1990, the façade of the castle was renovated, which regained its 1740s appearance.
The plaster was cleaned of later materials and then repaired and painted with lime mortar and lime paint. Carpentry, wrought iron and sheet metal were cleaned and painted with linseed oil paint.
